All land -except Westminster property - is publicly owned, under the management of the Redevelopment Land Agency. Metro is only temporarily leasing some sites during construction of the subway, due to open December 1999.
At least 7 acres is VACANT land . With the closing of the Post Office, Marianne store,and soon Woolworths , Parcel 27 /public portion only tenant will be the garage at Hiatt Place and Irving St. Parcel 26 only tenant is the La Casa Homeless Shelter.
Over 8 acres were under one ERA(Exclusive Rights Agreement )with Park Central Associates from 1981 to 1996. Plans were only provided for Parcel 29. No plans or timetables for the other 5 acres were ever provided; the agreement with Haft et.al was cancelled October 1996.
*The city has stated the purchase price of the Westminster property would be $6 million. Although there has been a plan for a Major Community Service Center in Columbia Heights since 1981, they have not purchased the land .
