MULTICULTURAL COMMUNITY SERVICE

The Multicultural Community Service (MCS) is a nonprofit organization comprised of individuals that provide services or reside in Columbia Heights, Shaw, Adams Morgan and Mt. Pleasant. MCS' mission is to transform racial, cultural and ethnic intolerance into a sense of richness in our diversity; to build communication bridges where we now find chasms; and to solve our differences peacefully and with respect for one another so that we may use our resources to work together for the common good. Our goal is to involve organizations and individuals in intergroup dialogue about their community life and to provide community mediation services that are culturally responsive. We believe that these services will help the groups and individuals concerned to arrive at a point where they "own" the community process for problem-solving and sustained intergroup harmony.

Our core areas of work are:

1. Facilitating public conversations on topics determined by the community;
2. Providing dispute resolution services;
3. Providing oral language interpreter and translator services;
4. Providing training - skill building in facilitation, dispute resolution and oral language interpretation;
5. Educating the community about the benefits of these programs.
