Biden wants to comment on Cuomo as the White House calls the report’s findings “hideous” | Democrats

The White House said the findings that New York Governor Andrew Cuomo had sexually molested several women were “hideous” and said Joe Biden would look into the matter later that day.

New York attorney general Letitia James revealed Tuesday the results of an investigation that showed Cuomo engaged in unwanted groping, kissing and hugging and making inappropriate comments to several women.

“I don’t know anyone could have watched this morning and didn’t find the allegations hideous. I know I did, “White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki told reporters later on Tuesday.

Biden had previously said that Cuomo should resign if an investigation revealed the allegations to be true.

Several New York Democrats – including both US state Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, and Congressmen Hakeem Jeffries and Mondaire Jones – called on Cuomo to resign Tuesday. Gillibrand called the report “deeply, deeply troubling”.

Bill de Blasio, New York City Mayor and Democrat but longtime political enemy of the Governor, said: “I’m saying the obvious: the summary you just gave represents unacceptable behavior.

“Unacceptable to anyone, let alone an officer. I made it very clear that what we saw is a disqualification. “

The Republicans also took up the findings. New York Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, the senior Republican in the House of Representatives, said: “Nobody is above the law and justice must be served today. Governor Cuomo must resign and be arrested immediately. President Joe Biden must demand Cuomo’s resignation immediately. “

Cuomo posted a defiant video address Tuesday insisting “that I have never touched anyone inappropriately or made inappropriate sexual advances” and made it clear that he still has no intention of stepping down.

Cuomo, the son of three-time New York Governor Mario Cuomo, became a political star through daily televised briefings in the first few months of the pandemic, but was tarnished by allegations that he misreported the death toll in nursing homes.

He was asked to quit last year when two former employees accused him of sexually molesting them in the workplace and several other women came forward on allegations of misconduct, leading James to a five-month investigation.
