PRESIDENT BIDEN: Well, I am – I want to welcome a good, loyal, and decent friend, His Majesty, back to the White House. And we’ve been together for a long time. I met him when he found himself in his son’s situation, when his father was still alive and I was a young senator. And it’s good to have him back in the White House.

You know, I want to thank you, Your Majesty, for your enduring and strategic relationship with the United States. You were always there and we will always be there for Jordan.

We also had the opportunity – we spoke – to speak briefly in the diplomatic room. And we talked about how our kids – our kids and my kids – ended their senior year in college on Zoom.

And we talked about the COVID-Pro- crisis. We were able to help Jordan a little and hope to be able to help even more and – in this pandemic.

And I would also like to thank you for your important leadership role in the Middle East. You live in a difficult neighborhood. And the fact is, I look forward to hearing from His Majesty about the pressing challenges – (a cell phone interrupts the event) – Jordan is facing. And whoever – is that a call for me on the phone? (Laughter) And we will keep working on it – strengthening our bilateral cooperation.

The world is changing. And you always – they’re always kidding me. I always quote Irish poets. It is said – there was a famous poem – “Everything has changed, completely changed. A terrible beauty was born. ”But a lot has changed, and there are many options, but also many difficulties to work through.

So welcome. Welcome, welcome, welcome.

KING ABDULLAH II: Thank you, Mr President. Many Thanks.

Mr President, as always, thank you for the kindness you have shown me. And as you said, I had the honor and privilege of knowing you and my father decades ago. It is therefore very warming for me to see you in this position and to thank you for the generosity that you have always shown me and my country.

You have indicated to support us with vaccines. On behalf of Jordan and the Jordanian people, we would like to thank you very much for the leadership that you have shown not only in supporting our country, but also in the international fight against COVID. You set the standard for the rest of us.

We come together as always strong partners. As you said, we have many challenges in our part of the world. I think many of us leaders from our part of the world will do the heavy lifting that we must do on behalf of the United States. But you can always rely on me, my country and many of our colleagues in the region. There is much to be done, sir, but with your guidance we will prevail.

PRESIDENT BIDEN: Well, as my grandfather used to say, “With the grace of God and benevolence towards our neighbors,” we will be able to achieve a lot.

Thank you thank you thank you.
