A more subjective rating of the day’s weather on a scale of 0 to 10.

5/10: Summer shifts to simmers and storms, which may be a nuisance for some.

  • Today: Partly to mostly cloudy, thunderstorms possible in the afternoon. Maximum scores: 86 to 90.
  • This evening: Thunderstorm possible in the early evening, muggy. Lows: 72 to 77.
  • Morning: Partly sunny, very humid, stormy in the afternoon. Maximum scores: 88 to 94.

Heat happens, especially in July. Temperatures and humidity will hover around uncomfortable levels again for the next few days, but we’re at least getting some respite from the heat in the form of clouds, showers and thunderstorms. Much like June, our hotter spells are not lasting, so the relatively good news is that cooler conditions and lower humidity are arriving in time for the weekend.

Today (Tuesday): Increasing clouds, heat and humidity with the possibility of afternoon thunderstorms, some of which may be severe or violent (gusty winds and heavy downpours). Highs should hit the mid 80’s to near the 90’s by early afternoon before clouds and storms appear. Moderate to high humidity is expected as dew points will climb into the mid to high 60’s and even near the 70’s. Winds from the south are mainly 5 to 10 mph, except for gustier gales. Confidence: Medium

This evening: More showers and storms are possible in the early evening, with partly to mostly cloudy skies overnight. It’s still moderately muggy, with lows reaching into the 70s when a light breeze blows from the south at 5 to 10 mph (except higher during storms). Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow (Wednesday): Partly sunny with the hottest weather of the week as highs range in the 90s to maybe even the mid 90s (dew points in the low to maybe even the mid 70s) in very muggy conditions. The heat index should be in the high 90’s to maybe the low 100’s. Showers and thunderstorms are possible in the afternoon and evening to try to break the heat a bit. Otherwise we only have light west winds with about 5 km/h. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: Partly to mostly cloudy as the humidity will remain. Scattered showers and thunderstorms also persist, with lows in the near 70s to mid 70s. Confidence: Medium

Thursday should deliver less intense heat thanks to a cloudier start to the day, and even some morning rain is possible if a fading midwest thunderstorm complex makes its way here. More showers and storms are also possible in the afternoon, with partly to mostly cloudy skies, elevations in the low to mid 80s, and moderate to high humidity. Thursday night will remain partly to mostly cloudy with more chances of showers and storms as lows range in the low to mid 70s. Confidence: Medium

Friday shows more partly to mostly cloudy skies with scattered afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms as a cold front tries to finally push through. We should see mid 80s highs again with moderate humidity but some spots could swarm closer to 90s. Chance of showers and storms remain on Friday night with partly cloudy skies and lows of around 70s to mid 70s. Confidence: Medium

The latest forecast trends are shifting the front far enough south to be relatively dry weekend, with lower humidity, partly to mostly sunny skies and only 80s for highs. If the front slowed down a bit we could still see some clouds and chances of storms Saturdayespecially in southern areas. Sunday should be the best day, with lower humidity and the better chance of more sunshine. Saturday night is also looking cozier, with lows in the 60s. Confidence: Low-Medium
