Jean S. Strojny, who was born in Edwardsville on November 23, 1927, died peacefully on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at her home in Washington, DC

Mrs. Strojny, the daughter of Peter and Bella Slimak, was married to Frank Strojny, who was also from Edwardsville, until his death in 1980. She lived in Edwardsville for most of her life and worked for the American Red Cross for nearly 30 years.

Ms. Strojny moved to the Washington area in 1989 to be close to her daughter and only child Denise, husband Bill Hall, and children Emily and Justin.

Denise Strojny-Hall died in December 2020.

During her time in the DC area, Ms. Strojny volunteered at Sibley Memorial Hospital for approximately 15 years. She swam her laps every day for 20 years until about six years ago. Her focus was on her family and she actively participated in the lives of her grandchildren and the family dogs. She was affectionately called “Mema” by everyone.

She leaves behind her son-in-law Bill Hall, Bethesda, Md .; her granddaughter, Emily Hall, Washington, DC; her grandson Justin Hall and wife Marie Berrodin, Brooklyn, NY, and their sons Jack and Landon; and close friends, including the group “Curves” with whom she developed a special bond.

A celebration of their life is held when it is possible for friends to gather safely.
