Oregon is holding back from the state of Oregon late, taking a 78-76 road win


CORVALLIS, Oregon (AP) Eric Williams Jr. scored a 3-pointer, 13 seconds back, and Oregon held on Monday night for a 78-76 victory over Oregon State in a Pac-12 conference rival bout.

Oregon took the lead on a Rivaldo Soares jumper with 1:37 remaining in the first half to take a 35-34 lead and the Ducks didn’t lag the rest of the way, but the Beavers pulled in the final five minutes even five times.

Warith Alatishe scored 10 points in the last nine minutes and three of his jumpers tied. Roman Silva scored 68:68 with 3:27 remaining and Jarod Lucas scored a jumper with 2:44 remaining to 70:70.

But the Ducks always found a way to take the lead back. Alatishe scored in the basket with: 38 left to tie it at 74-74, but Williams responded from deep and made 77-74. Dashawn Davis hit two free throws: 11 to hit the Beavers within one, but Jacob Young hit a free throw before Alatishe missed a layup with a second left.

Young ended Oregon’s lead with 16 points and four assists (9-6, 2-2). Williams came off the bench to hit 3 of 6 from depth, adding 14 points and 11 rebounds. N’Faly Dante scored 12 points and scored 11 rebounds and De’Vion Harmon and Will Richardson scored 10 points each.

Alatishe ended Oregon State’s lead with 16 points, seven rebounds and three assists (3-11, 1-3). Dashawn Davis added 14 points and five assists and Silva added 12 points and nine rebounds.

Oregon will play at UCLA on Thursday. Oregon State is on USC Thursday.
