WASHINGTON (WDVM) – Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington, DC (PPMW) announced that it will provide home abortion services to people in the DMV area, becoming the second Planned Parenthood subsidiary in the country to offer the service.
A notice stated that this option is available “up to eight weeks and six days after a person’s last menstrual period” began. All residents of DC, Maryland, or Virginia are eligible.
“COVID has made access to abortion more urgent and our providers are prepared to provide this service. Under restrictive laws like SB 8 in Texas, the flexibility of home abortion is particularly helpful for those who may have difficulty making an appointment at one of our health centers, ”the statement said.
Patients will meet online with a PPMW provider after phone screening. Medicines can be mailed or picked up, and PPMW will have a follow-up call a week later.
The publication read:
The cost of home drug abortion, including medication and follow-up care, is $ 525. Financial support is available to cover care costs. The services are available in English and Spanish. Patients can learn more or make an appointment at 202-347-8512.
