Police seek suspect after 3 shootings in Washington, DC

Police were looking for suspects in a shooting late Friday afternoon that left three people injured in northwest Washington.

Stuart Emerman, the deputy chief of the Washington Metropolitan Police Department, told reporters that there was no description of a suspect at this time.

“All three people have been taken to area hospitals where they are being treated,” Emerman said.

A man and a woman are in stable but critical condition, Emerman said, updating a previous report from a police source that said two men had been shot. A girl is also being treated for a minor gunshot wound.

The shooting took place at the 2900 block of Van Ness Street Northwest, MPD said.

Emerman said a school near the shooting is still under lockdown and students are inside. The police are with them and will take the students to a resettlement center where they can be reunited with their parents if they are able.

There is a large police presence at the scene, including MPD, the city’s Fire and Rescue Service, the uniformed branch of the US Secret Service and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Anthony Guglielmi, a spokesman for the Secret Service, called there are “no effects” on a beneficiary of protection.

The situation was characterized as one earlier Friday “active threat” and residents were told to protect themselves on the spot or avoid the area.
