The Pentagon specifies the content of its latest security assistance package for Ukraine

The United States is providing 18 patrol boats, four HIMARS systems, tens of thousands of artillery shells, ammunition and many other weapons and equipment under a $450 million security assistance package announced earlier this week.

“On Thursday, the US pledged $450 million in security assistance through the Presidential Withdrawal Authority — the 13th such issue this year. Included in that package were 18 coastal and river patrol boats,” the US Department of Defense reported on Friday.

Specifically, two 35-foot small-unit river boats, six 40-foot sea combat boats, and ten 34-foot patrol boats will be deployed from the Dauntless Sea Ark.

“These are largely to protect the river courses and allow Ukraine to retain control of the river courses. They can also be deployed in … near coastal areas,” a senior defense official said at a Pentagon briefing today.

In addition to the coastal and river patrol boats, the US Presidency’s recent security assistance package to Ukraine includes four Highly Mobile Artillery Rocket Systems, or HIMARS; 36,000 rounds of 105mm ammunition; 18 tactical vehicles for moving 155mm artillery; 1,200 Mk 19 grenade launchers; and 2,000 machine guns.

“Of course we have with each of these packages [also] provide a lot of spare parts,” the official said.

He also stressed that Ukraine is supported not only by the United States, but by almost 50 member countries of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group.

As reported, the White House on Thursday officially announced a new $450 security aid package for Ukraine.
