A Republican congressional candidate who had sought a seat in the 16th District of Illinois changes races and becomes the post in the 14th. Lauren Underwood from Naperville.
republican James Marter von Oswego submitted a new one on Wednesday candidacy with the Federal Electoral Commission declares its intention to run for office in the 14th district. Marter was among the Republicans who challenged District 16 MP Adam Kinzinger of Channahon.
In an email on Thursday, Marter said he switched races because he expected his home to be within the new boundaries for Jan.
“The reality is that the old 16th will be sliced and any new 16th will likely have little overlap with the old one,” Marter said.
Regarding Underwood, Marter said new leadership in Congress was needed to help Illinois.
“Bad federal policies make bad governance worse, and Congressman Underwood and her party have failed our communities, the state and the nation,” he said in a press release. “Today is the first step to hold them accountable.”
An Underwood spokesman was unavailable for comment.
Marter is the first GOP candidate to submit paperwork to the FEC in the 14th District Race. He tried unsuccessfully for the GOP nomination for the seat in 2020 and lost the Republican primary to the milk magnate and then Senator Jim Oberweis.
Underwood defeated Oberweis in the general election.
Marter also tried to depose Kinzinger in 2018, and he ran for the U.S. Senate in 2016.
Marter’s departure from the 16th district race leaves six GOP candidates there. They are: Kinzinger; Catalina Run from Woodstock; Michael Rebresh of Minooka; Jack Lombardi of Manhattan; Teresa Pfaff from Machesney Park; and Geno Young from Chicago. The Democrat Marsha Williams from Wilmington is also running.
A software consultant and head of Kendall County GOP, Marter came from the political right on Kinzinger. He repeatedly criticized the Congressman for failing to support former President Donald Trump during his second impeachment and on other issues.
Marter is one of the Trump loyalists, President Joe Biden. have said used fraud stealing the 2020 election despite a lack of evidence.
Marter has advocated other controversial positions as well.
On October 8th he retweeted a comment from Colorado Republican MP Lauren Boebert claiming they were technology companies “Just another arm of the deep state” a reference to a conspiracy theory that a secret network controls the federal government and other aspects of American society. Marter said: “They are!” in his retweet.
Also has torture against it mandatory COVID-19 tests and vaccinations, tweeted support by Trump supporter and conspiracy theorist Mike Lindell and named immigration attempts on the US border with Mexico “Insurrection and Invasion.”
The boundaries of the congressional districts will be redrawn due to population changes between the 2010 and 2020 censuses. The population of Illinois declined during this period and the state will lose a congressional district as a result.
The 14th district now includes parts of seven counties – Lake, McHenry, DuPage, Kane, Will, DeKalb, and Kendall.
The 16th district now includes parts or all of the 14 counties of Illinois. It extends from the suburbs of Far Northwest and the Rockford area to downstate Ford County.
