A Washington DC firefighter is on administrative leave after viral social media video showed him punching an usher at Nationals Park during Tuesday night’s game between the Nationals and the Atlanta Braves.

Metropolitan Police identified the man as 54-year-old Christopher Sullivan of West Virginia. He was arrested and charged with assault after video showed him shouting obscenities and then punching an usher who was trying to escort him out of the park.

The fight began when an usher asked Sullivan, who was seated in an area he wasn’t ticketed for, to return to the seat on his ticket.

Sullivan was reportedly told several times to return to his seat before finally being told he had to leave.

Viewers in the video can be heard screaming “Get out of here dude” and “You gotta go”.

The usher was using his body to force Sullivan up the stairs and out of the area when Sullivan turned and punched the man in the face, prompting a response from police and stadium security.

Sullivan is a firefighter with DC Fire and EMS but was already on administrative leave on pay for an incident that occurred on Aug. 31, Fox 5 DC reported.

The outlet received the following statement from the department:

“The actions observed in the video are absolutely unacceptable. Our department was informed on September 27, 2022 that an employee of our agency was arrested by the Metropolitan Police and charged with aggravated assault. Prior to this incident, the individual was on administrative leave with salary pending the outcome of an internal HR procedure. He will remain on leave while our internal investigation into this matter continues.”
