Woman killed, multiple gunshots at Days Inn in northwest Washington DC: MPD – NBC4 Washington

A woman has died and several people were injured in a shooting at a hotel in northwest Washington, DC early Thursday when gunfire erupted during a party, police said.

Police were called to the 4400 block of Connecticut Avenue in the Van Ness neighborhood at around 3:30 a.m. to reports of gunfire. Several victims were found at the Days Inn Hotel, Bedlion said.

Five men and women were injured in the shooting, Second District Commander Duncan Bedlion said. Some were taken to hospitals by ambulance, others by themselves.

A woman who works at a nearby bakery described the scene.

“I saw a person on a stretcher coming out of the hotel and being put into an ambulance, which was then escorted by a police officer. When I locked my bike, more and more police officers came,” she said.

A swarm of police officers and emergency vehicles, including a K-9 unit, were seen between Albemarle and Yuma streets. This block is a commercial area with some apartment buildings and several apartment buildings are on the surrounding streets.

Police were seen entering and exiting the Days Inn. Bedlion said members of the community have complained about the hotel before.

“We receive complaints related to drug activity and we are actively working on that with the community,” Bedlion said.

Initially reporting just one shooting, MPD issued an update saying the woman had died and three other women were injured. Then a guard commander told News4 that no deaths had been confirmed. MPD later issued a corrigendum, saying the woman was seriously injured. Eventually, police told DC News4 that the woman was pronounced dead.

Connecticut Avenue was closed in both directions as a result of the police investigation. It reopened after 7am

Police did not immediately provide details of what might have led to the shooting.

There was no search for a potential suspect.
